Technical Specialist for South America

The Technical Specialist will be largely defined by the skills and expertise of the employee. The person will become a member of our six-person office in Santiago, Chile and will be expected to travel throughout the South American region. This position will collaborate closely with regional wheat buyers and technical staff and technical consultants.

USW seeks a candidate with the following skills and qualifications:
• Experience in flour milling, wheat foods production and/or quality control. (Minimum 8 years)
• University or technical institute degree in food science, cereal chemistry, milling or a related field.
• Native or fluent English and Spanish. Portuguese is a plus.
• Proven ability to write in English and Spanish.
• Willingness to travel.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Organizational abilities.

Specific duties of the Technical Specialist include:
1. Assist in the development of activities to upgrade the milling and/or baking industry in South America.
2. To meet with and foster relationships with technical milling staff, including research and development managers, quality control experts, and milling and baking technicians.
3. To meet with and foster relationships with production managers and quality control experts at companies specializing in wheat foods products.
4. To provide wheat importers with on-demand technical information and troubleshooting.
5. To be available to customers by phone or email for immediate assistance.
6. To provide technical advice to mills after receiving a US wheat cargo in order to achieve the best mill yields and performance.
7. To arrange, execute and conduct technical seminars in the region according to industry needs.
8. To provide on-going support for customers after a technical activity performed by the USW technical staff or consultants.
9. To provide crop quality information in a timely fashion and to assist customers adjust their purchasing specifications accordingly.

10. To conceive and draft technical programs for the annual marketing plan, under the direction of the Regional Vice President.
11. To accompany consultants under contract with USW, as needed.
12. To travel with members of the Board of Directors of U. S. Wheat Associates, when requested by the Regional Vice President.
